About the Airport
Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport (RMMA) is designated by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) as a reliever for Denver International Airport. RMMA is owned and operated by Jefferson County and encompasses about 1,200 acres. As a Federally-funded, public-use airport, RMMA offers land for lease for both aeronautical and non-aeronautical development.

RMMA accommodates facilities for corporate aviation, aerial firefighting, emergency medical evacuation, flight schools, aircraft owners, and manufacturers.

Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport is home to approximately 50 businesses providing aviation and aviation-support services. Situated between downtown Denver and Boulder, RMMA is just minutes away from the Front Range’s major business parks, universities, sport and concert venues, and outdoor recreation. The airport and its related industries are vital to the area’s economic growth. According to the Colorado Department of Transportation’s 2025 Colorado Aviation Economic Impact Study, RMMA contributes about 5,000 jobs and $1.4 billion in total economic impacts to the surrounding area.

When Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport began operations in 1960, it was primarily surrounded by farmland. Over time—Jefferson County, the City and County of Broomfield, the cities of Louisville and Westminster, and the Town of Superior grew around the airport.

Between 1990 and 2023, airport operations have increased by approximately 98 percent, with the population of the surrounding communities increasing by about 72 percent. As RMMA and neighboring communities continue to grow, it is essential to understand and manage the effects of aviation noise while ensuring that RMMA remains a viable and reliable facility that benefits the entire region.
